Worst Companies To Work For: Glassdoor.com’s List (PHOTOS, POLL).

Huffington Post is not where I typically go to find news, but this post results from research elsewhere that Huffington picked up on.

No surprise to me that Gibson Guitar made this list.  While I have not personally worked there, the legend has been there for years and I know “casualties” of their culture.

It seems a shame that a brand that is known world-wide cannot have a better working culture and better communication.

I also noticed that Auto Zone made the bottom 10 list.  You may not know that they are headquartered in Memphis.  Tennessee has 2 on the list no one wants to be on.

Let’s work on that….

  1. Several months ago there was a recruiter position available there. Networking my way in a very well respected attorney in Nashville advised me to move on to the next one. Allegedly the condition there seem to stem from the very top, a leader in the micromanagement world; a President who approves (or disapproves) everything… literally everything… and has control over every decision.

The question that needs to be solved is, how do you get this person to realized how much more successful Gibson could be if they were not on the bottom of the list? Sure, they are a leader in what they do, but what would be wrong with being twice what they are today?

The problem is obviously trust… the President does not trust anyone. I’m sure he realizes that you get what you give. If you don’t trust someone, it is unlikely that they will trust you. And how long does it take for a distrusted person to begin to commit acts of which he is first accused?

Thought! Wouldn’t it be great if he took a 1 year sabbatical so to speak, and let a group of actual leaders run the business for 12 months. My money has it that the company would have a spike in every measure anyone would desire to measure.

Agreed, we need to get them off this list.

  2. Charlie,

I agree with your thoughts and it would be a great thing for both the firm and those involved.

It is hard for many leaders to give up control.

  3. Thanks for the article. Very informative. My siblings and I visit Memphis every summer. We go to Graceland, Beale Street, the Sun Studio, and then to the blues clubs for the evening. Always a good time!

  9. The IRS will use different techniques to bully you into paying the amount that they will insist you owe. Those who are not familiar with the strategies of the Internal revenue service usually pay this amount without taking a few minutes to question exactly why. A great tax law lawyer will help you overcome your fear with the IRS and meet them within the legal battleground. A superb tax lawyer will have the resources needed that will help you overcome any intimidation tactics that the IRS may use to pressure you to definitely pay.
