TN schools and Battelle team up to improve education

TN schools and science nonprofit team up to improve education | tennessean.com | The Tennessean.

I was excited to read this since the same kind of effort is also going on in a number of other states.  This link will take you to an article about a similar initiative in Ohio.

There is no doubt that enhancements need to be made to education in our country.  Our state, Tennessee, lags many others, but the entire country lags in our production of science and math professionals and the number of non-US Citizens in master’s and doctoral programs in this area is quite high and very scary.  Many of these non-citizens previously stayed in the country after graduation and provided intellectual horsepower to our economy.  Now many of them take their new knowledge back to their home countries, specifically places in Asia such as India and China.

Anything that can be done to stimulate Science and Math education, especially programs like STEM are needed.  The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is also a very active player in this movement.

Thanks to all that are playing a role here in the State of Tennessee!
