What is Cloud Computing?
I keep hearing about Cloud Computing and I suspect that many of you are hearing the same thing. I am providing a primer here for you to help you learn more about what Cloud Computing is and why you should care.
The video below has short excerpts from a number of thought leaders in the IT-Geek world (no offense intended-only compliments). This 10 minute video will help you gain multiple perspectives from others that will help fill in the gaps.
When I hear them all speak I hear the following:
- cloud computing is really more of a philosophy, a strategy
- cloud computing may become the “network of networks” for all computing (from Tim O’Reilly)
- it will be more a movement to more fully connect users; a very Web 2.0 or greater philosophy
- it is not a firmly defined concept
I hope the video helps and I invite your responses.

Here is an IBMer describes[1] Cloud Computing:
“IP enabled, scalable, virtualized, multi-tenant, subscription based (or “pay as you”), B2B, service delivery method for business software applications, platform development, and adaptive infrastructure. i.e. (SaaS based applications, PaaS based development, IaaS based infrastructure) .”
