Fun Weekend

I am writing today from “the loveliest village on the Plains”, Auburn, Alabama. We are here this weekend for the Auburn-Vanderbilt baseball series.
Some of you may say, so what. Here is why this is a great deal. Baseball in this part of the country is huge, especially College Baseball and even more so in the SEC. What makes it more interesting
is that we are blessed to have one son who attends Auburn and one who attends Vanderbilt, to that ramps up the sibling and family rivalry.
We arrived yesterday afternoon and caught a quick dinner prior to getting to Plainsman Park, the home of Auburn baseball. It had rained most of the day Friday, but the Lord was kind and he stopped the rain prior to the first pitch. The game was a pitcher’s duel until the 5th inning and then Vandy broke the game wide open in the 6th and 7th innings.
The other fun part of the weekend is meeting people who are affiliated with the baseball programs. We are fortunate to be Vandy season ticket holders for baseball and I follow baseball pretty closely. We have had the chance to meet several people involved with the program and they are all great people with a keen interest in not only athletics, but also with academics, a staple at Vandy.
One more thought on the game; our older son writers for the Hustler, the Vandy student newspaper, and he is here to cover the series. As a result he got a press credential and sat in the Vandy press box for most of the game. Quite a treat for him, and for us.
Stay tuned-there is a lot of baseball to play between now and the time we leave on Sunday
