Spending Time with Family

My wife and I had the opportunity to do something this evening we don’t normally do.  We had dinner with one of my two older brothers and his wife.  I have two older brothers, one in Illinois and one in Kentucky.  We had a good time at dinner and they will head to Vegas in the morning.

It is interesting how life can take people who know each other well and push them together or pull them apart.  My brothers are much closer to one another than they are to me.  I suppose part of that is because they are one year apart in age and I am 7 years younger than that.  I also suppose that my life has connected me much more closely with my spouse’s family than my own.  These things are not good or bad,  but merely an observation.

My sons relate much more closely to my spouse’s family than my own.  Again, neither good nor bad, but I suspect that geography has a part in this as well as the fact that my parents died at early ages while my in-laws are both still with us.

Life is so interesting in that we become a sum of our experiences and choices.  Part of what we become is programmable while other aspects are totally unknown until you come through them.

Has your life been like this?
